Blondie was only 6 months
old when her owners decided they could not
handle her. They had gotten her from the same
breeder that Oprah Winfrey had gotten her Golden
Retrievers. The long drive to Fort Mohave, AZ
was made to bring Blondie to the valley. The
family described Blondie as out of control and
they showed where the dry wall, doors and so
many other things had been chewed up and
destroyed. The family also admitted that they
had done no training with Blondie or even set
any boundaries. Blondie was scheduled for her
spay surgery two days later. After her surgery,
the veterinarian called with an update and then
said “I think I want to adopt her.” The response
was “you met Blondie when she was asleep. Here
is what she is like awake…… out of control,
destructive, hyperactive….” It did not matter,
Blondie’s future new Mom had fallen in love with
Blondie. First thing Blondie did was training
classes. Blondie graduated with flying colors
and went on to the open and movie dog classes.
Blondie and her Golden Retriever brother, Moose
even put on a skit, where of course Blondie was
dressed as a princess. All Blondie needed was
some training. Blondie also opened the door to
the wonderful world of fostering Golden
Retrievers for her new forever family.
Today Blondie is a teacher
and mentor to the young male hooligans and
occasionally the quieter male Golden Retrievers
that Arizona Golden Retriever Connection often
rescues. Red, Sundance, Loki, Charlie, Rascal,
Cody, Skippy, Buster, Wyatt, Matthew and Murphy,
to name a few, have all been taken under
Blondie’s tutelage.
