valley fever

Many of the goldens we rescue are already infected with Valley Fever.  Did you know that this disease can kill an untreated dog or cat?  It is an easy disease to catch, especially for strays and outside dogs.  Once a dog contacts Valley Fever, it can be treated, but the medication can be expensive and the recovery period can be prolonged. Some people can also contact Valley Fever.

Below are some 2007 AZGRC dogs that contacted Valley Fever.

The Valley Fever Center For Excellence website has updated information and web links.  New medication is being developed  and clinical trails are being performed by the University of Arizona.  You might want to read about this program and see if your Valley Fever infected dog might qualify to participate.
